This might seem like an incredibly boring thing to post about, but I just read our electricity meter.
Compared to everything else that's gone on today this was a welcome break, even though after searching high and low I had to email our landlady to ask where it was.
It turned out what I thought was a broken lamp in the alley was actually the meter. My final reply to her was..
