These are the first two photos (the wood grain being a practice shot) I've taken with my new Pentax K110D using an 18-55mm lens, if you want me to be more specific on the details just ask.

Oh and they're high resolution JPEGs I cropped to roughly 30% not TIFF!

I love it already.. can't wait until I actually know how to use it!

And this which I cropped from the first image above..

2006/11/22 15:34 - 13:34,

Michelle (the girl who helped me last night) and I have just been for some retail therapy..

She bought a hat and some tweezers whereas I spent three quarters of my wages on a DLSR camera with lenses and extras (in my defence it was a bargain compared to prices in England), oh and a pair of colourful socks, and some batteries, and a lollipop, and some air freshener.

Apologies to the namesakes out there but I had pretty much given up on the idea of ever liking a Michelle, the name's never appealed to me.

We didn't expect buying things would make us feel better but it was worth a shot, and we had fun trying.

2006/11/22 12:11 - 10:11,

Probably one of the strangest and shortest phone conversations I've ever had..

Me – Hi, it's Roo.

It – Oh hey Roo, I'm really sorry but I'm about to throw up, bye.

Me – Haha, okthenbye.

On the way back from the bank just now I was standing beside a women trying to keep control of a group of children at a junction.. what she failed to spot was her pram complete with baby rolling down the incline into the path of oncoming traffic!

I leapt into action and yanked it back onto pavement when the child (and me I've just realised) was literally inches away from being hit by a truck.

Not that I expected a reward or thanks but when she gave me an extremely angry glare, grabbed the pram from my clutches and strode off I was rather mystified.

I'm rather dubious about posting this because it's only going to perpetuate the myth that I'm the unluckiest boy on the planet but here goes..

At around 4pm I put my card into an RBC ATM on the corner of Bedford and Bloor, only to find it deducted the money from my account then decided I shouldn't have my card back.

After lots of frantic phonecalls from a pub and being told repeatedly that because I didn't have two forms of photo ID they wouldn't send any technicians out to retrieve my card, despite me saying that I had no money whatsoever to collect my passport from my address in Toronto and that I know the card number, sort-code and obviously my pin number off by heart, and that how on earth would I know that there was a card in a machine with my name on it if I hadn't put it in there in the first place, they still point-blank refused to offer me any kind of help whatsoever..

Apparently everyone in Canada routinely carries two forms of photo ID with them at all times.

Anyway, I complained, became scarily forceful/persuasive and asked to speak to someone 'higher up'.. eventually they agreed that as the machine was a service provided by them they should be the ones jumping through hoops rather than me and if I could show the technicians my passport they'd send the someone out to open the machine up for me.. and within ninety minutes they'd be there.

Which was roughly when I met two nice Scottish people from U of T who offered to lend me the $25 I needed for the taxi back home to grab my passport, so we exchanged numbers and five hours (not ninety minutes) later I'm the very proud and cold owner of the bank card which was my legal property in the first place and they should have bent over backwards to return to me.

I did make two nice new friends, and everything's ok now.

It would've been nice not to have to stand outside a bank machine wearing nothing but a t-shirt and jeans for five effing hours though.
